Commercial vehicles are equipped with extensive onboard electronics and software to ensure safety and efficiency, but also to support drivers in their demanding tasks. For this reason, the development of vehicle-related software components and onboard control units plays a very important role. But how can the data be processed and visualized in a user-friendly way to generate valuable insights into the software development process in the area of E/E? “A renowned customer from the commercial vehicle sector, with whom MVI has already worked successfully, asked us this specific question,” explains Weiß.
Step by step to an award-winning success
At the beginning, all stakeholders were involved and worked intensively with them. “This close exchange enabled us not only to understand our customer’s requirements, but also to implement them optimally,” says Weiß.
After an in-depth analysis of the technical conditions and comprehensive requirements engineering, clear dashboards were created that reflected the current status and enabled a forecast of the software development. “The process started with a lean proof of concept to demonstrate the solution and obtain stakeholder feedback at an early stage,” explains Weiß. Further dashboards and filters were integrated based on this. This iterative approach reduced the risk of developing features that were not needed. As a result, the available budget was invested in the best possible way and maximum added value was created for the consumers of the data. “After successful on-premise implementation, the reporting system received extremely positive feedback, as it replaced time-consuming manual processes,” says the project manager.
Cloud migration
“Due to a change in the client’s IT strategy, it was necessary to migrate the on-premise solution to a cloud environment. Amazon QuickSight was chosen as the serverless service. We were the pioneers who implemented an existing system for the client on a technically secure and future-oriented cloud infrastructure in AWS,” says our expert. Thanks to the migration, new dashboards can now be provided more quickly and cost-effectively. Thanks to optimized data ingestion, we have significantly shortened the interval for updating the dashboards, which has taken reporting to a new level. The customer now receives up-to-date insights into the status of software development on a daily basis.
Award-winning solution
Our commitment and innovative implementation were rewarded. “We received the coveted engineering prize from our client for the user-friendly implementation and presentation of the data. This recognition confirms our approach and motivates us to continue developing pioneering solutions,” remarks Weiß proudly.
Success factors and outlook
Matthias Weiß summarizes: “Our team at MVI SOLVE-IT has once again developed a modern and user-friendly reporting solution that has quickly found a high level of acceptance and distribution among end users. The close exchange with all stakeholders, the use of state-of-the-art technologies and the start with a lean proof-of-concept were key success factors. I am very grateful and proud of the dedicated efforts of our team, to be a technological pioneer for cloud solutions and to implement innovative, future-oriented solutions. This success story shows how important it is to put the customer at the center and work together on solutions that offer real added value.”
